It was introduced in 1937.
It was free.
It was to improve the health and welfare of young New Zealanders (and use up surplus milk).
Free milk stopped in 1967.
It helped kids get calcium in their teeth and their bones to keep help them stay healthy.

Some schools have fruit to help help kids with natural hygiene.
It was a response to the 2002 Child Nutrition Survey, which found that only 40% of children ate the recommended servings of fruit a day (two pieces).
You had to be a smoke free school to get fruit like we do.
They started sending fruit to the schools it was all about healthy eating.
It helped kids to stay healthy.
